Inspiring Future Talent at Olive AP Academy
Leanne Heerey
At Bridge Recruitment, we believe the future of the facilities management and built environment sectors depends on early engagement with young people and raising awareness of the wide range of career opportunities available.
Our Director, Michelle Brightly, recently visited OA Olive Academy in Hornchurch, Essex, as part of her role as an Enterprise Advisor with the Careers & Enterprise Company. OA Olive Academy supports students aged 11–16, providing a structured and supportive environment for those who may have faced challenges in mainstream education. With a strong focus on personal development, confidence building, and future pathways, the academy plays a vital role in preparing students for the world of work.
During the session, Michelle introduced students to the recruitment industry, explaining how Bridge Recruitment supports organisations across the facilities and property management industries. She explored the wide range of services that fall under facilities management including engineering, maintenance, cleaning, security, and front-of-house, helping students understand how these roles are essential to keeping workplaces, public spaces, and iconic buildings running efficiently.
As an Enterprise Advisor, Michelle works closely with schools to help bridge the gap between education and employment. This includes supporting careers programmes, offering employer insight, and ensuring students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s job market. By bringing real-world experience into the classroom, enterprise advising helps make career pathways more accessible and relevant.
Engagement like this is crucial in addressing the ongoing skills shortage in facilities and property management. Many young people are unaware of the variety and progression opportunities available within the built environment, and direct interaction with employers helps to challenge misconceptions and open up new possibilities.
At Bridge Recruitment, we are committed to supporting education, developing future talent, and strengthening the pipeline of skilled professionals across the built environment. By working closely with schools and initiatives like the Careers & Enterprise Company, we are helping to inspire the next generation and support the long-term growth of the industry.
