Bridge Pride

Pride Month 2022

June, Pride, LGBTQ+...

Held throughout June each year, Pride Month is a period of celebration for the LGBTQ+ community, with events taking place around the world to recognise the influence that LGBTQ+ people have had worldwide through the years.

Why June? Pride Month takes place in June to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City back in 1969, seen as the beginning of the modern gay liberation movement. As well as being a way to celebrate, Pride Month is also seen as an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise awareness of the issues the community currently faces. Although we seem to have come a long way, there is still a long way to go, and this is why Pride Month is so important.

Since 1969, society has moved forward significantly with regards to the LGBTQ+ community, but we’re still not quite there yet. Work still needs to be done with regards to inclusivity, ensuring each and every individual feels safe, represented and listened to. There are still some areas in which this isn’t the case, so moving forward we need to ensure this will change.

Here at Bridge, we’re proud to support Pride Month and everything that it represents. There should be no room for discrimination, and that is what Pride Month is all about – celebrating differences, raising awareness, educating people on subjects that matter and being a driving force for change.
