Pride Month 2021!

LGBTQ+, Pride Month, Celebration...

Held annually, Pride Month is a period of celebration for the LGBTQ+ community, with events taking place across the globe to recognise the influence that LGBTQ+ people have had around the world through the years.

Why June? Pride Month takes place in June to mark the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City back in 1969, seen as the beginning of the modern gay liberation movement. As well as being a way to celebrate, Pride Month is also seen as an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise awareness of the issues the community currently faces. Although we seem to have come a long way, there is still a long way to go, and this is why Pride Month is so important.

Compared to around 30 years ago society has come a long way, but in many instances, there is still room for improvement. People are still discriminated against due to their sexual orientation or how they identify themselves, and it affects many areas of their lives. Take the workplace for example. In terms of the workplace, many members of the LGBTQ+ community are still subjected to discrimination today. Whether it happens during working hours, or even at the job application stage, it is definitely something that needs to change. Inclusivity is something that needs to be adopted in all areas of life, work included, so that every individual feels safe, acknowledged and listened to.

Here at Bridge, we’re proud to support Pride Month and everything that it stands for. Nobody should be treated differently because of their sexual orientation, who they identify as or what they believe in. There should be no room for discrimination, and that is what Pride Month is all about – celebrating differences, raising awareness and educating people on subjects that matter within our society.
