The effects of Coronavirus: could a second lockdown cause even more disruption?

Postponing, Covid-19, Coronavirus...

Since March, the effects of Coronavirus have been endless. The spread of the virus has had a catastrophic effect on everything, from people’s health to businesses to events of all kinds over the world.

Within the FM industry, Covid had other plans for scheduled events and shows due to take place this year with one major event being The Facilities Show, originally going ahead in September at the ExCeL in London. Spread across three days, it is the world’s largest dedicated FM event welcoming over 12,000 global professionals each year. The highly anticipated show has unfortunately been postponed until May 2021, with many exhibits returning next year.

Group Director for the Facilities Show, Chris Edwards said: “We know how important our events are as a forum where our communities come together to learn, network and meet suppliers. We have a proud track record of hosting the largest gatherings of any event in our industry in the UK, and often beyond, and no one is more disappointed in this decision than us.”

The Facilities Show isn’t the only one to be disrupted this year. A number of events have either had to be cancelled, rescheduled or have taken place virtually instead. With certain rules and regulations being put in place again on Friday (31/7) and a cloud of uncertainty still hanging over us, it’s difficult to say what will happen in coming weeks. There have been talks of a ‘second wave’ and although we’re unsure of when that’ll be, we know it’ll cause mass problems for the UK.

Despite not knowing from one day to the next, we must maintain a positive attitude and take each day as it comes - and aim to bring our businesses back with a bang when the time comes.
