Our client is a leading facilities company providing a premium service within the FM industry.  They work across a variety of sectors, providing services in some of the most prestigious workspaces, world famous concert venues and leisure and hospitality establishments across the UK. They are looking for an Environmental Manager to work in one of the UK’s largest shopping centres. The desired candidate will be the spearhead of the sustainable strategy and initiatives across this flagship site. As the Environmental Manager, you must have strong organisational and communication skills, be able to manage external consultants and contractors and have the confidence and ability to plan and progress changes following correct planning and procedures with little supervision.  

Role Description:

  • To act as the focal point for sustainability strategy and initiatives.
  • Manage waste compliance
  • To manage the pest control contractor to ensure that set contractual KPI’s are delivered and that additional project works are undertaken in consultation with the client and in a compliant manner. To ensure that any reports of pest activity are resolved in a compliant and sensitive manner
  • To manage the ecological consultant contract to ensure that contractual visits and activities are undertaken. To act as a liaison between the ecological consultant and stakeholders planning or undertaking activities that have potential to affect flora and fauna
  • To act as a focal point and primary reference for onsite environmental compliance
  • To manage the onsite surface water quality monitoring process to include sampling and analysis, data entry, level and circulation monitoring and visual appearance
  • To manage the onsite groundwater monitoring process to include data collection and analysis
  • To manage the onsite pollution incident response plan to include:
    • Spill kit monitoring and stock replenishment process
    • Procedural review
    • Training and exercises
  • To manage the response to Environmental Incidents on the site to include:
    • Investigation
    • Assessment
    • Response
    • Reporting
    • Recharging
    • Retailer Liaison
  • To liaise with external stakeholders regarding the environmental management of the asset to include:
    • Environment Agency
    • KCC Highways
    • National Grid and subcontractors
    • RSPCA
  • To manage Biodiversity Management Strategy for the asset to include: 
    • Ensuring that activities identified within the strategy are implemented
    • Tracking progress against targets and objectives
    • The annual updating of Species Lists
    • The management of protected species, key habitats and geological features within the asset
    • Management of the site Environmental Impact Assessment process
    • Management and recording of biodiversity enhancements that are installed
  • To develop, facilitate and deliver training on environmental awareness and protection for all staff and selected contractors according to level, job role and exposure
  • To actively work with the engineering teams, the client and the site teams and stakeholders to identify and champion energy saving initiatives for implementation within the asset
  • To develop energy saving and renewable energy proposals, justifications and business cases for the Client
  • To develop environmental improvement proposals, justifications and business cases for the Client
  • To collate monthly data related to consumption of utilities and present to the client in an agreed format
  • To undertake monthly cost analysis of the utility usage and present to the client in an agreed format.
