Are you available for an immediate start? We have an interim role available for a Health and Safety Officer to join a Nationwide operation. This role would suit a candidate with a drive to learn and develop in the sector, who is detail oriented, an excellent communicator and passionate about Health & Safety. 

  • Based in Essex with occasional Nationwide travel 
  • Assist in driving and influencing the health and safety culture
  • To communicate Health and Safety policies and procedures effectively and quickly to all levels across the organisation
  • Maintaining the health and safety material, agreeing new content with the Chief Operating Officer
  • To develop, implement and maintain compliance with Health and Safety Legislation and Best Practice and delivering a safe working and learning environment for all employees
  • Carry out non-specific risk assessment for areas such as manual handling, DSE and COSHH and keep an updated register of such risk assessments for auditing purposes
  • To deliver as part of the employee development program health and safety training in areas such as COSHH, DSE, Manual handling, to comply with the organisation's duty to provide appropriate health and safety training
  • To contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • To support and participate in initiatives to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all members
  • To conduct site visits, carrying out risk assessments and audits as necessary and advising on risks and other issues
  • To write up all audit visits promptly and accurately in the agreed format, with clear identification of risk and recommendations for improvement where needed
  • To agree with the relevant manager who is responsible for each action, copy the report to them and oversee to ensure timely implementation
  • To evaluate health and safety performance and to report as required, highlighting best practice as well as problems and recommending solutions
  • Manage and deliver key projects relating to H&S management
  • Deliver Health and Safety services to a range of clients in areas such as, Safe use of Chemicals, Risk Assessments and Auditing 
  • Communicate effectively with clients to build strong relations and attend monthly site meetings
  • Review RAMS for both internal staff and sub-contractors
  • Good understanding of RIDDOR and other similar legislations
  • Conduct on site accident investigations and compile a full analysis and written report
  • Introducing yourself to clients and understanding their businesses and then agreeing a best practice plan of action moving forward

The Candidate: 

  • Must hold the NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent as a minimum 
  • Experience of site auditing and carrying out risk assessments
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, a strong work ethic with a desire to develop in a Health and Safety role
  • Self-motivated and ability to work under pressure
  • Full UK Driving License
